SegFi is an app which offers a simple way of raising an alarm without the emergency services having to become involved. Not every emergency requires an ambulance, rescue helicopter or fire engine, and SegFi makes it possible to notify first and foremost those personally connected with the person who needs help.
Designated family members, friends or neighbours receive an instant text message, e-mail or telephone call when a SegFi alarm is raised, alerting them that they need to make immediate contact with the person who raised it. If the situation demands, the designated helpers can then call the emergency services or summon other professional help.
The designated helpers, whose contact details are logged when the app is installed, are all alerted simultaneously when an alarm is raised and automatically informed of the current location of the person who has raised it.
How is the alarm raised?
The alarm is raised by tapping the SOS button displayed as part of the apps interface. The type of emergency can also be specified with just one tap of the finger.
SegFi button
The SegFi app also works in conjunction with the external SegFi button (hardware), its most important component. In an emergency, pressing the SegFi button three times in quick succession causes it to connect with the SegFi app, which in turn raises the alarm. If required, the SegFi system can be used with a stationary base which takes over the functions otherwise performed by a smartphone.
Countdown
The user sets a timer which, if not deactivated before it runs out, automatically raises the alarm.
Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
